Hitachi, which has approximately 30,000 business partners, has set a new goal of reducing carbon dioxide emissions to virtually zero by 2050, not just for itself but for the entire two supply chains.

There is a growing movement in Japan and overseas to achieve carbon neutrality, including with our business partners.

According to Hitachi, carbon dioxide emissions from the entire supply chain, including raw material procurement and product production, were approximately 72 million tons last year, of which more than 90% are emissions other than our own business activities.

Until now, we had set a goal of reducing our own emissions to virtually zero, but in order to accelerate our decarbonization efforts, we have newly established a goal to reduce the total supply chain to virtually zero by 2050.

Hitachi has one of the largest number of business partners in Japan, with approximately 30,000 companies in the entire group.

First of all, we will start making concrete plans with about 800 companies, which account for 70% of the transaction value, and aim to achieve it while utilizing the latest energy management system.

The move to aim for carbon neutrality as a whole, including business partners, will be achieved by 2030 by Apple in the United States overseas, and by 2050 by Sumitomo Mitsui and Mitsubishi UFJ, major financial groups in Japan, including investment destinations and lenders. It is spreading both domestically and internationally, such as as a target.
