The Dubai Sports Council confirmed that sports will be a strong presence within the activities of Expo 2020 Dubai, the largest global event hosted by the UAE in Dubai and held under the slogan "Connecting Minds and Creating the Future", as it will bring together, along with the most important minds in the fields of economy, science, literature and various fields of life, the most important International sports stars who will participate in various world championships and events, or they will visit the big event to promote their countries and interact with participants from different countries of the world.

Sports will be a daily event, whether through daily events or activities that are distributed throughout the largest exhibition of its kind in the world. The International Exhibition will be accompanied by 30 new international sports events.

More than 190 countries are participating in the exhibition, as the Dubai Council cooperates with the organizers of sports events and "Expo 2020" in organizing many sporting events over the days of the exhibition, which will extend its activities over a period of six months, starting from the beginning of next October.

The Dubai Council stated that the 16th Dubai International Sports Conference, one of the "Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives", and the World Football Awards (Dubai Globe Soccer) will be held during the Expo 2020 Dubai.

At the conference, the elite of the world’s football stars, including players, coaches, and leaders of international federations and clubs, will meet to discuss the challenges facing the game, ways to confront them, and ways to develop the sector to enrich sports at the local, regional and global levels.

Since its launch in 2006, the Dubai International Sports Conference has received more than 400 international and national speakers and coordinators, most notably Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo, Argentine Lionel Messi, ambassador of "Expo 2020 - Dubai", French Zinedine Zidane, and the late Argentine Diego Armando Maradona.

Sports creativity honors

A ceremony will be held to honor the winners of the eleventh cycle categories of the “Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Sports Creativity”, one of the “Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives”, which is the largest award in terms of the value of its awards and the multiplicity of its categories.

On January 9, 2022, the ceremony will honor Emirati and Arab champions from the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020.

Among the international events that will be organized at Expo 2020 Dubai, the World Chess Championship, which will be held from November 24 to December 16, 2021, will witness the participation of world champion Magnus Carlsen to defend his title against his world rival Ian Nepomnyakhchi.

The Hamdan Bin Rashid International Chess Masters Championship will also be held at the same time and place, coinciding with the World Championship.

The Expo 2020 race will be organized for distances of 10, 5 and 3 km, during which the participants will experience a unique experience of running around the pavilions participating in the "Expo 2020 Dubai", and the buildings for the event, which are designed according to the latest standards and engineering technologies, and their designs have taken into account the futuristic character.

Weekly running events will also be organized and participation is available to all members of the community, every Saturday inside the Expo headquarters, and participation will be available free of charge to all event goers.

Cycling enthusiasts from all over the world will focus on the Expo headquarters on February 25, 2022, to follow the Dubai stage of the Emirates International Cycling Tour, in which a group of the most prominent cyclists and world champions in cycling will participate.

In addition to official competitions and international championships, visitors to the Expo 2020 Dubai headquarters will be able to practice their favorite sports in the sports facilities that will be available on various sides of the Expo headquarters, through two cricket fields, a multi-use court for basketball, volleyball, tennis, netball, and an indoor hall. A fitness center, a five-a-side football field, a global platform for practicing yoga and Zumba, in addition to sports workshops, sports events and activities for people of determination, and special events for the participating countries.

The countries participating in the Expo will have a prominent role in organizing many diverse sporting events within their pavilions in the exhibition, where the Australian pavilion organizes various sporting events whose program will be revealed later, and the New Zealand pavilion organizes a range of sporting activities that last for five weeks, including fitness training The famous "Not Miles".

The Croatian pavilion will organize a sports and fitness exhibition in the presence of the most famous Croatian football stars, including Luka Modric, the Real Madrid star who won the best player in the world and the Champions League title.

The Italian pavilion will organize fitness classes and various lectures, while the Hungarian pavilion will host the Tech Ball Championship.

The Nigerian pavilion is hosting the Football Legends Championship, and provides the opportunity for sports fans to meet international football stars Okocha, Nwankwo Kanu, John Obi Mikel and world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua.

During the Expo, the Senegalese pavilion will promote the Youth Olympic Games to be held in Senegalese cities in 2026, as Senegal won the organization of the Youth Olympics to be the first African country to host an Olympic event.
