Half a year after the blockade of the Suez Canal in Egypt, another ship got stuck there for a short time.

A 225-meter-long freighter ran aground in the waterway on Thursday, the German press agency learned from sources in the canal authority.

A short time later he was able to continue his journey, it was said.

Four subsequent ships have been stopped.

The shipping traffic was only partially affected.

The ship in question is the ship data provider "Marine Traffic" and, according to reports, the bulk carrier "Coral Crystal", which sails under the Panamanian flag.

He was en route from Romania on the Black Sea to Sudan on Thursday.

Most important waterway in the world

At the end of March, the container ship “Ever Given” ran aground in the Suez Canal.

The 400-meter-long cargo ship blocked the canal for six days, after which a traffic jam formed and the passage of hundreds of ships was delayed.

In July, the authority reached an agreement with the Japanese ship owner to pay compensation.

The sum of this agreement was not disclosed.

The Suez Canal is one of the most important waterways in the world. It connects the Mediterranean with the Red Sea and is the shortest sea route from Asia to Europe. The canal is one of the most important sources of income for Egypt. In the first half of this year, the canal authority achieved sales of around three billion dollars (2.5 billion euros) despite the blockade by the "Ever Given".
