Emirates Airlines announced yesterday that it will expand its operations to and from South Africa, and enhance its schedule to 28 flights per week by next October, to be the largest weekly schedule for the airline to that country since the outbreak of the Corona virus (Covid 19) pandemic.

The company said in a statement that its step aims to provide wider options for customers wishing to visit Dubai, or travel through it to various destinations within the global airline network, which covers more than 120 destinations on six continents.

The intensification of operations to South Africa, as of October 31, 2021, includes two daily flights to Johannesburg, one of them with the giant Emirates A380 aircraft, in addition to a daily service to Cape Town and Durban.

Emirates Airlines confirmed that, as of January 1, 2022, it will start serving two daily “Johannesburg” flights with A380 aircraft, providing travelers to South Africa, including the best experience in the air, thanks to the private suites and the “shower spa” in the first class. And seats that convert into fully flat beds in Business Class, and the air lounge for passengers of “First” and “Business” classes, in addition to the premium economy class cabin, and comfortable seats in Economy Class.

Emirates Airlines explained that the expansion of its flight schedule comes in response to the growing demand from customers to visit Dubai, which issues tourist visas for all nationalities, in addition to easing restrictions on some destinations that now allow entry to arrivals from South Africa without the need for quarantine.

In addition, Emirates Airlines is preparing to revive its strategic partnership and cooperation with South African Airlines (SAA), with the latter resuming its scheduled operations on September 23.

Emirates' partnership with the national carrier of that country dates back to 1997, the first codeshare agreement between Emirates Airlines and another carrier.

Since the start of the strategic cooperation, about 370,000 passengers have benefited from the partnership between the two airlines.

With the revival of the partnership with South African Airways, Emirates' presence will be enhanced throughout South Africa and neighboring countries in the south of the continent thanks to four partnerships, between a common code and interline agreements that also include airlines: Airlink, Sim Air "Cemair" and "FlySafair", which expands the map of "Emirates Airlines" routes in the region to an additional 79 cities.

The carrier aims to provide wider options for customers wishing to visit or travel through Dubai.
