According to the Economy Watchers Survey of the Cabinet Office, which asks workers how the economy is feeling, the index showing the current state of the economy last month was 34.7, which was more than 10 points lower than the previous month.

The Cabinet Office revised its keynote judgment downward as it deteriorated significantly against the backdrop of the spread of the new coronavirus infection.

The Economy Watchers Survey asks more than 2,000 working people how they feel about the economy compared to three months ago and uses it as an index.

In this survey, which was conducted from the 25th to the 31st of last month, the index showing the current state of the economy was 34.7, which was 13.7 points lower than the previous month.

The index deteriorated for the first time in three months, and it fell sharply due to the extension of the state of emergency due to the spread of the new coronavirus infection and the impact of the expansion of the target area.

In response to the survey, leisure facilities in the Tokai region said that the number of visitors dropped sharply due to long rains and declarations of emergencies during the busy season, and department stores in the South Kanto region said that "infected people". With the increase, the number of visitors has decreased, and the decrease in sales of clothing and groceries cannot be stopped. "

For this reason, the Cabinet Office has revised down its keynote judgment regarding the current state of the economy, saying that "there is a weakness in recovery due to the effects of the new coronavirus."

On the other hand, the index, which asked about the future of the economy two to three months later, was 43.7, down 4.7 points from the previous month, as there were still strong concerns about the impact of the spread of the infection.
