From the 2021 World 5G Conference to the 2021 China International Trade Fair in Services (Services Trade Fair), many high-profile conferences and exhibitions have focused on digital cutting-edge technologies represented by 5G, which have demonstrated the speed of 5G construction and application. The breadth and breadth also highlights China's determination to seize the opportunity of digital industrialization and use 5G as the engine to promote high-quality development.

A new engine leading high-quality development

The 48th "Statistical Report on China's Internet Development Status" recently released by the China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC) shows that China's 5G commercial development has achieved three leading positions in terms of scale, number of standards, and application innovation.

In terms of scale, Xiao Yaqing, Minister of Industry and Information Technology, recently introduced at the 2021 World 5G Conference that China has opened 993,000 5G base stations, covering all prefecture-level cities, more than 95% of counties, and 35% of towns and townships. 5G The number of terminal mobile phone connections exceeded 392 million.

In terms of the number of standards, China's 5G standard-essential patents accounted for more than 38%, ranking first in the world.

Unlike the previous focus on product manufacturing, China is participating more in upstream standard formulation and ecological cultivation, and 5G standard support capabilities continue to increase.

In recent years, 447 industry standards such as the "General Technical Requirements for the 5G Mobile Communication Network Core Network" have been released successively, providing important technical specifications for the innovative development of 5G converged applications.

In terms of application innovation, China's 5G application cases have exceeded 10,000, covering 22 important industries and related fields of the national economy, including steel, electric power, and mining, forming a large number of colorful application scenarios.

5G is rapidly integrating into all walks of life, presenting various forms, and has formed a system leading advantage, becoming a new engine leading high-quality development.

According to the "5G Application "Sailing" Action Plan (2021-2023)" jointly released by ten departments including the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology in July this year, by 2023, the penetration rate of 5G individual users in China will exceed 40%; in the vertical industry, large-scale industries The penetration rate of 5G applications of enterprises exceeds 35%; in the field of social and people's livelihood, a batch of "5G+Smart Education", "5G+Smart Medical", and "5G+Cultural Tourism" model projects will be created, and the construction level of "5G+Smart City" will be further improved.

Effectively promote rural revitalization and industrial Internet construction

At the World 5G Conference and the Service Trade Fair, 5G applications in all walks of life were collectively unveiled.

5G application scenarios support the improvement of adaptability, which greatly meets the digital needs of industries such as tourism, medical care, education, and sports, and effectively promotes rural revitalization and the construction of industrial Internet.

In the tourism industry, intelligent technologies represented by 5G+AI and 5G+VR are widely used to promote the vigorous development of cloud tourism and digital virtual tourism.

China Telecom applied 5G+MEC (edge computing technology) capabilities to cultural tourism scenes and successfully restored the appearance of the Xia Dynasty palace in Erlitou Ruins Park, Yanshi, Henan.

Visitors can use their mobile phones to "travel" more than 3000 years ago and experience the prosperous scene of the Xia Dynasty capital through AR (augmented reality) technology.

In the medical industry, information technology represented by 5G has made Internet hospitals, Internet diagnosis and treatment, and telemedicine technologies increasingly mature.

With the help of orthopedic surgical robots, Beijing Jishuitan Hospital has successfully implemented more than 50 cases of 5G orthopedic remote surgery in more than 10 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities including Hebei, Tibet, Zhejiang, Shandong, Tianjin, Anhui, and Guangdong. "Admission", after the patient enters the ambulance, the 5G system will quickly connect the patient's heart rate, blood pressure and other real-time conditions with the hospital emergency room to achieve "zero distance between the car and the hospital."

The Beijing Winter Olympics, which opens next year, will also benefit from the popularization and application of 5G.

Zhang Ping, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, said that 5G technology can meet the needs of Beijing city, Yanqing and Zhangjiakou for hosting meetings, efficient coordination and management, and realize applications such as smart game viewing, ultra-high-definition live broadcast, sports technology, and safe competitions, and promote ice and snow competitions. Project achievements have developed by leaps and bounds.

The 48th "Statistical Report on China's Internet Development Status" shows that China has more than 1,500 "5G + Industrial Internet" projects under construction, covering more than 20 important industries in the national economy.

At the 2021 World 5G Conference, multiple “5G+Industrial Internet” projects were shortlisted for China’s top ten 5G application cases——

Sany Heavy Industry's 5G fully connected factory runs through the entire business process, with more than 230 industrial equipment connected to 5G, covering 8 categories such as equipment interconnection, manufacturing, energy management, and visual management; Qingdao Port has built the world's first hydrogen-powered 5G terminal Nearly a hundred intelligent equipment such as unmanned automatic guided vehicles and high-speed rail cranes have been put into production. The loading, unloading and transshipment of containers are all completed by the deployment of intelligent systems; Shanxi Yangmei Group and China Mobile have built China’s first underground 5G coal mine in Xinyuan Coal Mine The network realizes the intelligent connection of all things underground, which reduces the safety risks of mining operations and improves the efficiency of mine production operations.

In Eshan She Nationality Township, Tonglu County, Zhejiang Province, the construction of the “5G Rural Intellectual Brain Comprehensive Management Platform” allows 5G applications to be integrated into the villagers’ food, clothing, housing and transportation. The growth of fish has transformed the cultivation method that originally required rich experience into a calibrated and quantitative scientific and technological agricultural cultivation method; "5G+VR Cloud Classroom" allows children in mountainous areas to enter the classrooms of prestigious schools, realizing the overall improvement of rural teaching resources .

Work together to ensure that 5G development benefits the world

At present, a new upsurge of 5G enhancement technology research and development and industrial layout is setting off globally.

Experts said that 5G development itself has the characteristics of division of labor and coordination, and deepening cooperation and expanding openness are the only way for development.

Countries must work together to ensure that the development of 5G benefits the world.

Li Meng, Vice Minister of Science and Technology, said that China is willing to continue to uphold the concept of open cooperation, mutual benefit and win-win results, with a more open attitude, more pragmatic measures, and relying on China's foundation in 5G technology application and industry to further strengthen the evolution of 5G technology. International cooperation to explore the secondary development technology system for 5G vertical industry applications.

Carry out 5G enhancement technology standards, equipment research and development, and test research, improve the adaptability of 5G vertical industry applications, and solve development problems such as 5G frequency expansion and coverage enhancement.

Xiaojuan Changjiang, School of Public Administration, Tsinghua University, said that 5G is characterized by the ability to connect more data, and globalization is its innate requirement.

We must strive to obtain the benefits of global scientific and technological cooperation, but we must also guard against risks and enhance our technological innovation capabilities in the era of digital globalization.

Zhang Ping suggested that infrastructure construction such as 5G technology should be further accelerated to provide technical support for the development of digital trade.

At the same time, we must focus on strengthening the protection of intellectual property rights, which is also an important prerequisite for China to actively build a new regulatory system for digital trade.

Xi Guohua, chairman of the China Communications Standards Association, believes that China has made great contributions to the formulation of 5G standards and has made many explorations in industry application standards.

However, in the formulation of standards, there are still challenges such as insufficient vertical industry application, industrial ecosystems to be improved, and network security threats that are still severe. All parties need to work together to resolve them.
