Chinanews.com Beijing on September 6th Electric Carbon Neutral Economic Development Forum and China International Chamber of Commerce Sustainable Development Committee inaugural meeting were held in Beijing on the 5th.

Ji Wenlin, vice president of Lenovo Group China, said at the forum that Lenovo's actual carbon emissions have been reduced by 92% in the past 10 years, and it is continuing to reduce carbon emissions through technological innovation and synergy between upstream and downstream industries to help achieve the "dual carbon" goal.

The forum is one of the supporting activities of the China International Trade in Services Fair in 2021. Lenovo Group participated in the forum as a member of the standing committee.

Ji Wenlin said that Lenovo has released reports related to the environment, society and corporate governance (ESG) since 2007, and has invested in environmental, social and corporate governance for more than 14 years.

He said, “As the first company in China to formulate and release the Scientific Carbon Emission Reduction Target (SBTi), Lenovo is committed to reducing Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030. The carbon emissions in the value chain, namely Reduce Scope 3 carbon emissions by 25%".

In fact, Lenovo's actions in carbon emission reduction have attracted the attention of institutions.

At present, the total capacity of solar installations installed in Lenovo's global factories has reached 16 megawatts, and the waste recycling rate is 88%.

In March 2020, Lenovo entered the world-renowned Carbon Clean 200 list, becoming the company that uses the most clean energy among mainland Chinese companies.

In December 2020, Bloomberg released the ESG disclosure performance rankings of listed companies in Mainland China, and Lenovo Group ranked first; among the top 20 companies, only 5 companies have an MSCI rating or above, and Lenovo Group is the only one to receive AA. Level of enterprise is the highest level in the same industry in the world.

Talking about how to achieve low-carbon strategy and goals, Ji Wenlin said that Lenovo is actively building a green manufacturing system, starting from the five aspects of products, processes, clean energy, recycling and external empowerment, to guide and drive the joint transformation of upstream and downstream suppliers in the industry chain.

Lenovo currently has 4 national-level green factories and has launched more than 100 green design products.

Lenovo is also actively exporting technologies, services and solutions to the outside world, forming a "soft and hard" synergy through hardware and software, helping thousands of industries to achieve green and low-carbon transformation.

For example, in the field of green technology, Lenovo has independently developed warm water and water cooling technology. By reducing the demand for air conditioners and radiators, it can reduce the energy consumption of data centers by more than 40%. The energy reuse efficiency ERE has reached the industry's leading position and promoted high performance. Computing is going green and intelligent.

In the field of supply chain, Lenovo has formulated strict supplier contract regulations, comprehensive supplier codes of conduct, and in-depth implementation of supplier verification projects, including strict implementation of the "responsible business alliance code of conduct).

85% of Lenovo’s suppliers have disclosed their greenhouse gas reduction targets and obtained third-party certification.

In terms of independent innovation, Lenovo has improved the intelligent level of manufacturing through the development and utilization of new technologies, thereby further reducing carbon emissions.

For example, the Hefei Lianbao factory is Lenovo’s largest production base for personal computers in the world. It processes more than 5,000 orders per day on average, of which 80% are customized products with a single less than 5 units.

For this reason, Lenovo has independently developed an intelligent production scheduling system. Through the combination of artificial intelligence technology and mathematical optimization algorithms, it has created an intelligent production model to quickly find the best scheduling strategy.

This system improves production efficiency and reduces idle production lines, thereby saving 2,696 MWh of electricity each year and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by more than 2,000 tons, which is equivalent to planting 110,000 trees each year.

In terms of international cooperation, Ji Wenlin said that Lenovo's warm water cooling technology has been implemented in the United States, Malaysia, Sweden, Germany, Austria and other countries to provide local partners with more efficient and environmentally friendly computing power services.

In addition, Lenovo is deeply involved in international standardization work, participating in 53 domestic standardization organizations and 42 international standardization organizations, helping to improve the green and low-carbon standard system through deep participation in standard formulation.
