The price of electricity in the wholesale market has fallen again, but it is a small and, above all, relative

drop

: the

134.89 euros

per megawatt hour at which electricity will be paid this Saturday is the third most high of history.

Weekends are usually cheaper and have given some respite in this crisis, in which they had never even approached 120 euros.

In addition, Saturday will also be the first day in history in which

150 euros MW / h

will be exceeded at some point

. It will occur in four time slots: 00:00 (150 euros fair), 21:00 (150.01), 22:00 (152.27) and 32:00 (150.01).

As it happened in the second week of August, in which the price beat its record every day, the last of the month and the first of September has been catastrophic. Thus, there have been four new historical figures and

six of the highest prices ever recorded

. The 137.7 euros to which the average megawatt hour was paid on Friday would occupy the first position of the podium on any other date, but on Thursday it had set the bar at 140.23; one of those silver that tastes like gold. Saturday's bronze completes a podium that, if the trend continues, could be obsolete very soon.

At the beginning of July the trend was already upward, but it was not until July 20 that the levels, then apparently unattainable, of 100 euros were reached. The cost of the megawatt hour was then set at 101.82 euros and a record, 103.76 euros, which had been unbeaten for practically two decades, since it dated from January 11, 2002. The next day it was exceeded and shortly after, an August began. historical.

During the month the record price was exceeded eight times and in September it has already happened on two other occasions. This leaves a 41% increase in the bill in one year and an additional 18 euros of bill compared to August 2020 in a family nucleus with a demand of 250 kilowatt hours in the month. In total, 63.88 euros that goes to 93.10 euros for the average user in a study carried out by FACUA, which sets the contracted power at 4.4 kW -the same at peak and off-peak hours- and establishes a consumption of 366 kWh per month.

In an interview with Radio Euskadi collected by Efe, the Minister of Labor and Social Economy,

Yolanda Díaz

, has acknowledged that within the Government "there is discussion" between the PSOE and UP about the "rhythm" of application of the measures adopted to face this crisis energy and reduce the price.

Likewise, it has ensured that the proposed law that United We can register to create a public energy company is not about disloyalty between partners, since the groups have "their own dynamics."
