Tax offices are likely to be happy about the desire for revenge on the part of some people.

Once a relationship ends in a bitter dispute or with great disappointment, the former partners report quite a few tax offenses to the authorities.

Even former business friends and employees or envious neighbors sometimes behave similarly.

In addition, tax issues are often a sensitive issue anyway.

The online reporting platform presented in Baden-Württemberg on Monday, on which information about tax evaders can be submitted anonymously, is causing heated discussions.

For most people in Germany, however, an anonymous information about tax fraudsters via such a portal is probably out of the question.

At least that is the result of a representative survey by the Yougov opinion research institute.

According to this, 59 percent of those questioned answered that such a tip to the tax office was at least not likely for them.

On average, around every fifth German citizen (21 percent) would use an offer like the new platform.

7 percent said they are very likely to do so.

18 percent of the survey participants did not provide any information.

There are differences between the sexes.

For men, use is therefore more likely than for women - a share of 27 percent is noted for men and 17 percent for women.

Baden-Württemberg's finance minister Danyal Bayaz (Greens) had the portal activated in order to strengthen the fight against tax evaders.

Thereupon it had hailed criticism from, among others, the Union and FDP.

Bayaz pointed out that there are similar projects in other federal states, just not on the Internet.

Other federal states could also imagine introducing such a digital reporting portal, reports the news agency dpa.
