Japan has decided to strengthen its cooperation with Russia in order to stably secure hydrogen and ammonia that do not emit carbon dioxide during combustion toward decarbonization.

On the 2nd, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Kajiyama and Russia's Energy Minister Shriginov signed a joint statement and agreed to strengthen cooperation.

Specifically, in collaboration with Russia, which has abundant natural gas as a raw material for producing hydrogen and ammonia, we will start local production of hydrogen and ammonia and transportation business to Japan.

We will also promote research and development of technology that collects carbon dioxide generated during the manufacturing process and traps it deep underground.

Since hydrogen and ammonia do not emit carbon dioxide when burned, the government plans to expand its introduction as a fuel for thermal power generation toward decarbonization, but stable securing is an issue.

The aim is to promote decarbonization by strengthening relations with Russia, a resource-rich country.
