This is the first Israeli-Palestinian meeting at this level in a decade. Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz traveled to Ramallah for a meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

Improve security

Two and a half hours of discussions between the two delegations followed by a one-on-one of 40 minutes.

Ways of improving security and the economic situation in the West Bank and Gaza Strip were discussed, according to a statement released by the Israeli side.

Strengthening the Palestinian Authority

Several reductions will be implemented.

And the two sides agreed to continue the dialogue.

This meeting comes at a time when we are witnessing an escalation at the border between Israel and the Gaza Strip with almost daily clashes.

Israel obviously wants to strengthen the Palestinian Authority against the Islamists in power in Gaza.
