The Executive Director of Sharjah Sustainable City, Yousef Ahmed Al Mutawa, stated that the existence and spread of sustainable cities in the UAE is a guarantee of the sustainability and well-being of urban communities, noting that the sustainable city of Sharjah is one of the ambitious projects that aims to achieve the highest standards of social, economic and environmental sustainability that constitute the three basic elements. To ensure the sustainability and well-being of communities, the city is part of the partnership between the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) and Diamond Developers, for which a memorandum of understanding was signed in March 2018.

He added to "Emirates Today": "We are working in Sharjah Sustainable City to apply all sustainability standards in planning and implementing the project, in line with the efforts of the UAE to advance the process of sustainable and comprehensive development, preserve natural resources and protect the environment.

We seek to achieve more achievements, such as the one achieved by the Emirate of Sharjah in the field of environment, by launching many environmental projects and initiatives and related studies.”

Al Mutawa continued: “Sharjah Sustainable City is the first sustainable and integrated community in the Emirate of Sharjah that presents a pioneering model for the city of the future.

It is a mixed-use residential project of international standards, which, in its design, achieves the reduction of the carbon footprint in the emirate.

The city aims to improve the quality of life for its residents without compromising the requirements of future generations, and provides opportunities for research on how residential communities can reduce carbon emissions.”

He pointed out that the Emirate of Sharjah, under the vision and directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, has accumulated environmental achievements that have brought Sharjah's global reputation in the field of environmental conservation and biodiversity conservation, through a number of achievements in this field that the owner of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah has a special interest in making the emirate a role model in sustainability and environmental innovation locally and regionally.

Regarding the technologies used in the city, Al-Mutawa pointed out that the city is completely powered by renewable energy produced by solar panels, with recycling of water and waste, and the cultivation of various types of vegetables and fruits using modern technology in green houses.

The Sharjah Sustainable City was designed to suit all members of society in the UAE in general and in the Emirate of Sharjah in particular, so it is not restricted to a specific segment, but rather designed for people looking for a more sustainable and contemporary lifestyle. For this reason, the Sharjah Sustainable City has attracted a large segment of Emiratis and residents from different Nationalities, and we noticed a strong demand from the youth segment, as the percentage of investors under the age of 39 reached about 55% of the total investors in the project, while the percentage of investors in the project between the ages of 40 and 49 reached about 24%.
