It reportedly says the pipeline could be sold to another certified operator as a last resort to circumvent the EU Gas Directive.

According to the updated rules, the pipeline entering the territory of the European Union must either be partially filled by an alternative supplier, or that part of it that is located on the territory of the block must be owned by a third-party company.

Earlier, the Supreme Land Court of Dusseldorf rejected the appeal of Nord Stream 2 AG to exempt SP-2 from the requirements of the Gas Directive. 

The Kremlin said that this decision belongs to the category of corporate issues and recalled that we are talking about an international project, which is designed to make a significant contribution to the energy security of all of Europe.
