Next year's health insurance premium rate will rise 1.89% from this year.

The Ministry of Health and Welfare announced that it has decided to raise the health insurance premium rate by 1.89% in 2022 by holding the Health Insurance Policy Review Committee (Health Review), the highest decision-making body for health insurance policies.

As a result, the premium rate for employers in health insurance will rise from 6.86% to 6.99% next year, and the amount of points paid for insurance premiums for local insurers will rise from KRW 201.5 to KRW 205.3, respectively.

The rate of increase next year will fall short of the 3% rate that the government had previously planned.

The government announced that through the 1st National Health Insurance Comprehensive Plan, the health insurance premium rate could be increased by 3.49% in 2020-2022 and 3.20% in 2023.

In a situation where social and economic difficulties are aggravating due to the COVID-19 outbreak, it is said that the decision to minimize the increase in health insurance premiums, which can be a burden to households and businesses, has been decided this year.
