LH employees A few months ago, when public opinion was boiling over the real estate speculation, the joint government investigation team announced that they would thoroughly investigate allegations of speculation. However, the limitations of 'self-investigation' are clear, including the belated suspicion that the older brother of an LH executive purchased land worth hundreds of millions of won in an urban development zone.

This is the exclusive report by reporter Han Ji-yeon.

Yangjeong Station is located in Namyangju, Gyeonggi-do.

In March 2019, this area was designated and announced as an urban development zone, and LH was selected as the project implementer.

However, 1.5 kilometers away from here, the older brother of Lee Mo, an LH executive, bought the land and building for 900 million won.

I borrowed more than 500 million won and bought it in the name of my spouse and son born in 1988.

The purchase date was September 2018, six months earlier than the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's urban development zone designation notice.

It has been 8 months since my brother Lee took over the post of general manager of the LH Urban Planning Department and moved to another place.

It is estimated by nearby real estate companies that the market price difference is expected to be about 500 million won as the land price has risen sharply due to favorable development factors, such as the connection of the expressway to the Yangjeong Station area.

[Nearby real estate: You can't go up unless the land around here doesn't go up. (The land of Mr. A) is about 450 million. It went up about 1 million won per pyeong.]

Former general manager Lee denied the relevance of his brother's speculative transaction, saying, "I am not aware of the fact that my brother bought the land or the designation of an urban development zone near Yangjeong Station."

When the joint government investigation team investigated the LH speculative transaction in March, Mr. Lee was serving as the general manager, but the related transaction was not investigated.

As only family members within the same household as the employee were investigated and siblings were excluded, there was a clear limit to revealing speculation allegations.

[Kim Eun-hye/People's Power Rep. (Affiliation of the Land Transport Committee): I think that I am a former/current member of the crawling investigation. I think it would be a futile effort without the will to thoroughly dig it out.] The

government plans to finalize the LH innovation plan, which was triggered by the speculation at the end of this month, but it is unclear whether the public's trust will be restored.
