An additional billions in funding promised by the federal government for the change in the automotive industry towards cleaner drives is available.

The “future fund” with a volume of one billion euros by 2025 is now ready to go, said Finance Minister Olaf Scholz (SPD) on Wednesday at a government “car summit”.

This should support the future orientation of the industry and the auto regions.

"Our goal is for the German automotive industry to build the climate-friendly cars of the future, create new jobs and maintain added value," said Scholz, who is also the SPD's candidate for chancellor.

The establishment of the fund was decided in principle at a “car summit” in November.

According to the Ministry of Finance, the specific design has now been clarified on the basis of an expert report.

Scholz explained that regional collaborations for employees and companies on site should be funded with more than 300 million euros in order to work on concrete ideas for the future.

In addition, it is about assistance with digitization and with the conversion of production for new drive technologies such as electromobility.
