The average price of electricity in the wholesale market has once again exceeded its historical maximum and will stand on Tuesday, August 10, at

111.88 euros / MWh

.

The previous 'record' was held precisely on August 9, with 106.74 euros / MWh.

It is, therefore, a considerable increase, since on previous occasions the bar had risen in scales of cents (106.57 euros reached last July 21; 0.17 euros less than the highest figure until this Tuesday) and this time they are

5.14 euros of difference

.

According to the data collected by OMIE, at no time will it drop below 100 euros per MWh and will reach peaks of 117.15 (at 08:00, 10:00 and 23:00), 119 (09:00 ) and up to 120 euros (9:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m.).

Thus, the amount increases almost 5% compared to the previous day (4.8%, specifically) and 187.7% compared to the equivalent date of 2020 (August 11, the second Tuesday of the month), when the electricity cost 38.88 euros / MWh on average.

August is not giving consumers a break, who have already experienced a month of July with historical highs and an average price of 93.46 euros / MWh, which was already 169.8% above the same month last year.

It should be remembered that it is this monthly figure that makes it possible to measure the final impact on people's pockets and, for the moment, August seems to follow the same trend.

So far this month the pool has already registered a historical maximum (today's) that will exceed tomorrow and what until now was the second, third and fifth highest price in history.

Only on July 21 (106.57 euros) he managed to enter this particular podium.

The increase is due to the high prices of emission rights and the increase in the price of natural gas itself.

The former stood at 54 euros per ton in August (for comparison, in the first months of the year they were around 30 euros), while natural gas is at 41.7 euros, according to Mibgas data collected by Europa Press.
