It's an old argument about when in the course of a year homeowners should stock up on heating oil.

Many people habitually do this in the fall, when it gets cooler and the heating season begins.

Others say to themselves, then everyone will buy and prefer to order their oil in the summer, in the hope that it will at least tend to be cheaper.

But because so few people think that way, heating oil is often not that cheap in summer.

In many years the cheapest way to travel is to order heating oil at the end of December or in January, when most of them have stocked up and have not yet re-ordered.

The price of heating oil has risen by 81 percent since September

This year there are some special features, as the Internet portal Check 24 has worked out in a small survey.

Because of the corona pandemic, crude oil was unusually cheap at times last year because industry around the world was down and traffic was nowhere near as heavy as normal.

The weak demand caused the price of crude oil to fall.

This is why heating oil was particularly cheap in September 2020, but since then the price has risen with certain fluctuations in the spring and has increased by a total of 81 percent.

According to the information, a household in Germany paid around 770 euros for 2000 liters of heating oil in September 2020.

Now in July 2021 it was an average of 1392 euros, reports Check 24.

Drone attack on tankers leaves the oil market cold

In the past few weeks there had been certain fluctuations, as can be seen from figures from the Internet portal Heizoel 24, to which 500 oil traders report their prices.

The price of crude oil had recently fallen for three days because investors in the oil markets were concerned about the continuation of the corona pandemic.

A drone attack on an oil tanker, on the other hand, had no noticeable impact on the oil price.

On Thursday, the price of crude oil fluctuated by $ 70 a barrel (159 liter barrel) after it had been over $ 75 in early July.

The investment bank Goldman Sachs had predicted oil prices around $ 80 for the summer months as likely.

The price for gasoline had risen again in July compared to June and reached new highs for the year at the end of July, according to figures from the ADAC car club.

Now drivers pay an average of 1.56 euros per liter for Super E10 and 1.40 euros for diesel.

Depending on the petrol station, city and time of day, the prices can be significantly higher.

The overall price level at the petrol stations is higher than it has been in years.

The price rally was primarily due to the price rally for crude oil, but also the introduction of a carbon dioxide price for fuel and the renewed increase in VAT at the beginning of the year.

The ADAC assumes that the strong demand for gasoline in the holiday travel wave has caused the price of fuel to rise.

Consumers are also paying more for gas again

The gas price has also risen continuously since October. A model household with an annual consumption of 20,000 kilowatt hours of natural gas currently pays an average of 1301 euros, Check 24 reports. In the basic gas supply in Germany, the gas price is even at an all-time high of 1,515 euros. This means that gas is currently a quarter cheaper with the ten cheapest alternative providers at an average of 1135 euros than in the local basic supply.
