Automaker SUBARU has indicated that it will reduce car production by 40,000 units from the original plan due to the inability to procure parts due to the global shortage of semiconductors.

This was revealed at a briefing session held by SUBARU on the 3rd regarding the financial results for the three months until June.

Initially, we planned to produce 1.03 million units in this year, but due to the global shortage of semiconductors, we cannot procure enough parts, so we will reduce it by 40,000 units to 990,000 units.

However, we have left the previous forecast of operating income, which indicates the profits of our main business, at 200 billion yen over the current fiscal year.

Although the number of vehicles produced will decrease, the main reason is that in the main US market, sales are strong due to the effects of the government's economic measures such as cash benefits, and the "incentives" that are the source of discounts are also small.

"The situation of semiconductor shortages is uncertain, but the impact is likely to continue, at least in the first half of this year," said Katsuyuki Mizuma, CFO.
