The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry has shown a trial calculation of the total cost of power generation as of 2030 in line with the basic energy plan.

The cost of solar power generation will increase if factors such as responding to changes in the weather are added.

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry presented a draft energy basic plan late last month, including a significant increase in the proportion of renewable energy from "36% to 38%" in 2030.

According to this plan, we have shown a trial calculation of the total cost of power generation by power source.

According to this, the cost per kilowatt hour was 18.9 yen for commercial solar power and 18.5 yen for onshore wind power.

Nuclear power was 14.4 yen and LNG thermal power was 11.2 yen.

Before the draft plan came out, we announced a trial calculation of the power generation cost on the 12th of last month, but compared to that time, the cost of solar power for business use is about 7.7 yen and the cost of onshore wind power is about 3.8 yen higher.

Regarding the reason, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry explains that the amount of power generated by solar and wind power fluctuates greatly depending on the weather, which adds to the cost of curbing output and securing thermal power generation for backup.

It is necessary to expand the introduction of renewable energy toward decarbonization, but the issue is how to reduce costs in the future.
