With our special correspondent in Bejje,

Nicolas Falez

It is a village in Mount Lebanon about sixty kilometers north of Beirut.

In the Christian-Maronite church, the inhabitants of Bejje pay homage to one of them, who died on August 4, 2020 in the

explosion

in the port of the Lebanese capital.

His name was Nehmé Moukhaiber.

Albert is one of his cousins: “

We have never forgotten,

” he said.

It touched and affected us a lot and as the priest said, Nehmé is a national loss, not only for the family and the village.

 "

Like many Lebanese, Nehmé Moukhaiber lived and worked in Africa.

In his village in the Lebanese mountain, we remember his generosity and his willingness to help his country.

The family is in mourning and asks for the truth because a year after the tragedy the investigation is at a standstill.

 Frankly, we don't know anything

,” Albert assures us.

We do not have access to the file, obviously, because the investigation is secret.

There are summons, but we know that some do not appear.

We demand the lifting of immunities from the top of the state pyramid to the lowest rung.

And that all be brought to justice.

Let the criminal be tried, whoever he is.

We want justice to be done.
