This weekend is a race which, without having the aura of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, nevertheless has a special place in the history of motor racing: the 24 Hours of Spa.

On the sidelines of the event, Mercedes will exhibit three unique special editions, created to pay tribute to an important event.

Aufrecht Melcher Grossaspach

In 1971, it's been 16 years since Mercedes withdrew from all competition following the tragic accident at Le Mans, which killed more than 80 people.

It is therefore the first time since a lease that a Mercedes has appeared at the start of a race.

But it is not the manufacturer himself who enters the car.

They are two former members of the brand's sports division, the so-called Aufrecht and Melcher, from Grossaspach.

On contract: AMG.

Against all expectations, the big limousine 300 SEL, whose 6.3-liter V8 has been increased to 6.8 liters and more than 400 hp, wins a category victory, and ranks 2nd overall.

AMG has earned its stripes in the world of sport.

Unique

To celebrate 50 years of this victory, Mercedes has created three unique models, which take the red dress of the first AMG, small patches of the sponsors included.

These three cars are based on GT3 models: the current AMG coupe, the 2016 AMG coupe, and the SLS AMG with butterfly doors.

All are equipped with the already legendary 6.3l atmospheric V8 in racing configuration.

There will be only one copy of each car, intended for collectors as passionate as they are wealthy, who will not be able to use them on the road or in official races, since they are delivered without FIA homologation.

Their respective prices: € 500,000 for the 2016 GT3, € 575,000 for the 2020 GT3 and € 650,000 for the SLS AMG GT3.
