The main aircraft manufacturers, Boeing and Airbus, have managed to get out of losses in the first quarter of this 2021 and have registered profits,

despite the persistence of the pandemic and in the midst of the crisis in the air sector

, which has led to the main European airlines to request bailouts from their respective governments and both manufacturers to carry out important cuts.

In the case of Airbus, the European manufacturer closed this first quarter with

a net profit of 2,231 million euros

, compared to the 1,919 losses that it had recorded between January and June 2020 due to the pandemic.

According to the company, which has raised its forecasts for 2021,

this result was due to commercial aircraft deliveries,

cost containment and good performance in Helicopters and Defense and Space.

Specifically, between January and July, it delivered 165 aircraft (compared to 365 in 2020) and 38 deliveries were canceled, compared to 298 the previous year.

This brought him 17,813 million in revenue.

As of June 30, 2021, the company had 6,925 commercial aircraft in its order book.

cuts

In July 2020, the European manufacturer, which has part of its workforce in an ERTE situation due to the fall in activity, announced a historic cut that included 15,000 layoffs, 1,600 of them in Spain.

In the case of its competitor, the North American

Boeing

, it earned six six million dollars (five million euros) in the aforementioned period (compared to the losses of 2.542 million in 2020)

thanks also to the deliveries of devices of the 737 MAX model.

Revenues reached 10,284 million dollars (8,716 million euros), for the delivery of 156 commercial aircraft in the first six months of the year, 123% more than in the first half of 2020.

Specifically, the aeronautical manufacturer has delivered more than 130 737 MAX aircraft and the airlines have returned to service more than 190 aircraft of this model, which remained on the ground for more than a year when safety problems were detected after several accidents.

This improvement in the manufacturers' business contrasts with

the difficult time that the airlines are going through

, which are not going up, because, although traffic has partially recovered, it is not doing as expected, as recognized by IATA, the International Air Transport Agency , some days ago.

IATA expects the

airline

industry to

generate

losses

of $ 47.7 billion in 2021, compared to losses of $ 126.4 billion in 2020.
