Paradores closed 2020 with losses of 63 million after reducing its turnover by half compared to 2019 due to the closures derived from the pandemic.

Specifically, according to the accounts published by the hotel chain,

the turnover was 128 million

, compared to 265 million in 2019, which was a record year.

In March the chain, like the rest of hotels and non-essential shops, had to close all its establishments until June.

Despite the fact that occupation last summer reached levels "similar" to those of 2019, it

closed the year in negative

(-63 million), compared to the benefit of 10 million the previous year.

Despite this drop in income,

spending on salaries and allowances for senior management increased,

from 394,307 in 2019 to 444,074 euros last year, according to the accounts.

The hotel chain owned by the state has 97 establishments in 16 communities, 10,000 accommodation places and some 4,000 employees.

The Government has just appointed a new president of the company, after the departure of Óscar López, who will occupy the position of Chief of Staff of the President of Pedro Sánchez after the latest government reshuffle.

The position will be held by Pedro Saura, who was Secretary of State for Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda with former Minister Ábalos.
