Emirates Global Aluminium, the largest industrial company in the UAE outside the oil and gas sector, revealed that its suggestions program, which allows employees to share their ideas and contribute to improving operational and technical processes, contributed to saving costs of 416 million dirhams.

The company confirmed in a statement yesterday, on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the launch of the suggestions program, that its employees submitted 546,000 suggestions and ideas, which contributed to saving those costs.

The program, designed by the company's head of industrial engineering, Glenn Ashley, in 1981, in cooperation with a team of professional engineers, is one of the oldest and most prominent programs that include employee participation, and which is still implemented at the global level to this day.

During the first year of its launch, employees submitted 43 suggestions through printed forms, then Emirates Global Aluminium launched a digital platform in 1999, to better receive the suggestions.

In total, during the past 40 years, more than 9,800 employees submitted more than 546,000 proposals, which contributed to improving various aspects of work, such as reducing energy consumption, improving operational efficiency, maintaining safety in the workplace, and enhancing sustainability performance.

Abdulnasser bin Kalban, CEO of EGA, said that the Employee Suggestion Program is part of the company's long-standing legacy, and it is part of our culture to promote innovation and continuous improvement, through which we create great value every year.

He added, "The program was established based on our complete confidence that the people close to the workflow are the best to provide and implement the required improvements, and this confidence has contributed to strengthening the company's position as one of the largest innovative industrial companies in the UAE."

The construction of the breakwater in the water desalination project implemented by Emirates Global Aluminium in Jebel Ali is one of the proposals that contributed to saving hundreds of millions of dirhams.

The barrier was proposed to be built in 2003 and implemented in 2006, which contributed to cost savings of 6.68 million dirhams each year, and by enhancing the efficiency of power generation, the company was able to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 245 tons annually.

The remote-controlled industrial waste cleaning machine is another important idea that was proposed in 2016. The idea was implemented in 2017, and contributed to eliminating difficult manual labor, and saving more than 809,000 dirhams.

In return, employees with brilliant suggestions and ideas are given the amounts saved thanks to their suggestions, and the company celebrates them in the events and events it organizes annually.
