Six months after

the announcement of the opening of its embassy in Abu Dhabi

and ten days after

the inauguration of that of the United Arab Emirates

in Tel Aviv, Israel has just appointed its ambassador in Abu Dhabi.

As Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid pointed out, this is proof that the relationship between the two countries is a top priority for Israeli diplomacy.

And this demonstrates, underlines a diplomatic source, that the Abraham agreements survived the departure of Donald Trump and that of former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, considered to be the architects of the normalization process.

Amir Hayek, the new ambassador, is not a career diplomat, says our correspondent in Jerusalem,

.

He is currently president of the Israeli Hotel Association.

He is close to the Israeli foreign minister known for his open hostility towards former prime minister Netanyahu.

The media recall that in recent months, Amir Hayek has repeatedly expressed his opposition to certain aspects of the normalization agreement between the two countries.

These include the sale by the United States of F35 fighter bombers to the United Arab Emirates and the mass travel of Israeli tourists to Dubai in the midst of the pandemic.
