El Corte Inglés reached sales between March and May 2021 of 2,511 million, 50% more than in the same period last year, when Spain was confined and the department stores closed, except for the food part.

The figure represents an improvement compared to that period, despite the fact that between March and May of this year there have also been restrictions on trade and mobility, but it is still far from the 2019 data, when more than 3,300 million were invoiced of euros.

The group, which reported these results today, points out that with these figures it is thus close to the levels achieved in 2019, although "excluding the travel division" and the impact that tourism has had on sales.

Between March and May of this year there were still capacity and schedule restrictions in many autonomous communities, to which is added the lack of mobility and the collapse of tourism, which has impacted sales, although the group assures that the division of Commerce reflects figures similar to those of the pre-covid year, with an increase in turnover in this division of 47.8%.

With regard to the other business areas, Insurance "maintains stable sales with 54 million euros while Travel" is still affected by mobility restrictions, although the efforts and measures implemented have led to an improvement in Ebitda. "

According to the group, which presented its strategic plan last week, the gross margin has increased by 69.2%, standing at 801 million euros.

Ebitda reaches 81 million euros, which represents an increase of 276 million compared to the same period of the previous year, according to the note.

Online sales have grown by 119% compared to the same quarter of fiscal year 2019, going from 5.3% to 12.84% of total sales.
