“We have taken note of the statements on this case, which should be assessed taking into account the issues of sovereignty and European energy security,” a ministry spokesman said at a briefing, quoted by RIA Novosti.

Earlier, US Undersecretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Victoria Nuland said that the United States had reached an agreement with Germany on Nord Stream 2.

According to her, Berlin is committed to seeking sanctions against Russia if the Russian side uses energy "as a weapon" against European countries.

In addition, Germany will be obliged to seek a ten-year extension of the agreement between Kiev and Moscow on gas transit expiring in 2024.

Moscow noted that the decision to extend the transit of Russian gas should be made on the basis of economic profitability.
