She made the corresponding statement, speaking at the hearings in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

"Today we will publish the agreement that we reached with the German government ... I can give you a number of details here," Nuland said.

According to her, Berlin is committed to seeking sanctions against Russia if the Russian side uses energy as a weapon against European countries.

She also added that Germany will be obliged to seek a ten-year extension of the gas transit agreement between Kiev and Moscow expiring in 2024.

Earlier, Germany announced progress in the dialogue with the United States on Nord Stream 2.
