A report issued by the Dubai Economy stated that the process of reserving trade names during the first half of this year (January to June 2021) amounted to 32.08 thousand procedures, compared to 21,475 thousand procedures during the first half of 2020, with a growth rate of 49%. Emphasizes the vital role of the trade name and its importance in the market value of companies and institutions.

At a time when the trademark is of paramount importance in the market value, all service companies are looking for distinctive trade names and registering their trademarks, as well as public and private shareholding companies wishing to list their shares in the capital markets.

The fees for reserving a trade name can be paid through the authorized service centers or the electronic payment channels approved by the Dubai Economy, while the fees are only 620 dirhams.

The trade name can be booked from Dubai Economy in both Arabic and English on the invest.dubai.ae platform.

The list of terms and conditions for reserving a trade name in the Emirate of Dubai includes the following:

■ Trade names cannot be translated, but the name itself is written in both languages ​​by transliteration.

■ The use of letters and numbers is allowed in the trade name, and icons and special symbols cannot be used.

■ The trade name can include the first and last name of the partner or the owner, but it should not be limited to the family name, for example: Ahmed Al-Ghamdi Real Estate name can be registered and not Al-Ghamdi Real Estate.

■ The trade name cannot include the name (God) or any of the expressions of His Majesty, nor the names of countries, regions, regions, sects, organizations, pre-registered names and well-known trademarks.

■ A trade name that begins with words such as global, international or middle eastern cannot be reserved and translated into English.

■ Trade name data is based on how the name is pronounced, so any similarities in Arabic and English should be determined by searching for synonyms.

■ The trade name can include certain words such as golf, abbreviations, foreign names, and in this case it is considered a distinctive trade name.

Trademarks are registered by the Ministry of Economy, while trade names are registered by the Dubai Economy.
