The government has decided to shut down all administrations, banks and non-essential businesses for six days in the provinces of Tehran and Alborz, neighboring the capital, which together represent nearly a fifth of the population.

Likewise, it is forbidden to leave or enter the two provinces.

The fifth wave of the pandemic is spreading at a very high speed across the country.

In Tehran, the number of hospitalized patients now exceeds 8,000 people, a record never reached since the start of the pandemic.

Likewise, 20,000 people went to hospitals on Sunday July 18 alone.

More than six million foreign vaccines expected

The Delta variant has become largely dominant.

The first cases appeared in the eastern and south-eastern provinces of Iran, bordering Pakistan and Afghanistan.

At the same time as this critical situation, the number of vaccinations reached the figure of 400,000 injections on Sunday.

But Iran hopes to receive more than six million foreign vaccines within a week to immunize people over sixty.

Likewise, several hundred thousand vaccines produced in Iran itself have been distributed across the country.
