Not a day goes by without one of the main tourist-issuing countries taking or putting Spain or its lists on its risk list.

Yesterday it was the United Kingdom, which placed the Balearic Islands in the amber zone after having given it green two weeks ago.

Today it is the Netherlands that

have advised against traveling to the archipelago, but also to the Canary Islands, due to the rise in infections

, which has made the TUI tour operator cancel reservations from Friday to mid-August.

Although it is true that this fifth wave has caused the rate of infections to grow,

the situation in Spain has nothing to do with that of last year

, since practically half of the population is vaccinated and the situation in hospitals is incomparable.

Madrid, one of the communities most affected by this pandemic, has spent days without registering any deaths from Covid, for example.

However, while Spaniards pack their bags and increase tourist spending (this grew by 4% in June due to this national demand, above the figure for 2019),

some European countries continue to fit together the pieces of the famous color map

, which it judges whether a country is safe to travel or not and classifies it as a green, amber or red zone.

Worrying trend

In the case of the Netherlands, its Government has increased the risk for the aforementioned archipelagos, as well as for Cyprus and Portugal, so that, from tomorrow,

travel is discouraged unless it is necessary.

"There is a worrying trend in the Covid figures in these areas," the Dutch Foreign Ministry said in a statement collected by Europa Press.

Thus, people who travel to Spain or Portugal, upon their

return, will have to present a vaccination certificate, a PCR test or demonstrate that they have antibodies

.

No quarantine will be required.

This notice joins those of France and Germany, which already last week advised against traveling to Spain.

These two, together with the United Kingdom, are our main tourist source countries.

In fact, after the messages from Berlin and Paris, international tourist travel bookings have fallen by 20%, although it is true "that there have been no cancellations," as reported yesterday from Exceltur.

The tourism sector had given positive forecasts for this summer, as national demand is skyrocketing and, although it will never be able to compensate for the low arrival of internationals, a recovery was perceived in some areas.

However, industry sources denounce that

it is not necessary to fall into this alarmism, as this could truncate a summer campaign

that was expected to be moderately positive.

For now, the tour operator TUI has canceled the reservations scheduled until mid-August.
