Economists for Reconstruction Ferran Brunet: "Catalonia is a fiscal hell and Madrid a paradise, a better place"
201 days of earned income to pay taxes. It is the time that the citizens of
Catalonia
need to pay the taxes that are mandatory and that is the highest figure in all of Spain, a situation that is in line with what is known as Catalan tax hell as a result of the high and numerous figures that exist in this region.
The calculation is derived from the study
on Fiscal Liberation Day
carried out annually by the Civismo Foundation, and in which it is observed that this day will not arrive in Catalonia until July 21. The Spanish average, on the other hand, places that day on this Tuesday, July 13, and also on this date is the individual data for the
Community of Madrid
, which shows the contrast between the two major economic poles of Spain. On that same date or even below are
Galicia
,
Extremadura
, the
Canary Islands
,
Castilla y León
,
Andalusia and La Rioja
.
The document, prepared by the economist Javier Santacruz, also confirms that Catalonia is one of the only two communities in which the tax burden of the community itself increased compared to the previous year. The second is the
Valencian Community
. Therefore, a region governed by the
PSOE, Compromis and Podem
and another in which the pro-independence parties have been creating new tax figures for years. "
19 taxes of the most surreal
", as denounced by the doctor in Economics and co-founder of the Catalan Civil Society, Ferrán Brunet, and corroborates the Panorama of the Autonomous Taxation that the General Council of Economists also publishes annually.
The tax on the provision of content by providers of electronic communications services and the promotion of the audiovisual sector and the dissemination of digital culture or the figure on the production of electrical energy of nuclear origin are some examples of this, which also in both cases have been declared unconstitutional.
That same document of the General Council of Economists also shows that Catalonia is the community that
most punishes middle and low incomes
through the autonomous section of personal income tax, and all this is accompanied by the additional increase in taxes that was included in the last Catalan budgets.
PP and C's in downward communities
On the opposite side, in the communities where "the tax burden on income from work and wealth continues to be lowered," the report explains, are
Andalusia
, the
Region of Murcia
and
Castilla y León
.
All of them have a common characteristic: they are regions governed by the
PP
and, at least in its formation, in coalition with
Ciudadanos
.
In the Region of Murcia, that union was broken by the failed motion of censure that Inés Arrimadas' own party raised with the PSOE, an event that in turn precipitated the elections in Madrid, the rise in the polls of the
popular
formation
at the national level , and even the crisis of the Pedro Sánchez government.
But in all of them, the initial spirit in tax matters was similar, and this is reflected in this report.
Strong increase nationwide
The high taxes in Catalonia, the progress of the Valencian Community and the situation of these last three regions is framed in a generalized delay of that day of tax release, from the middle day to the aforementioned July 13 from June 26.
The reasons: "On the one hand, in 2021 not only salary income is included, but also professional and savings income. And, on the other hand, a set of taxes that until now the models that were used did not collect correctly, in addition to the
new taxes approved in 2021 and the fiscal modifications of those already existing
both in the State and in the Autonomous Communities. In this way, the stable or downward trend of recent years is broken ".
