Several battery factory projects

For the French manufacturers engaged in the battle of the electric car, the stake is threefold: to be the first, the best and the cheapest.

Renault announced at the end of June a 5-year plan: 10 billion euros to finance its electrification strategy.

The goal is to sell 90% fully electric cars in 10 years.

On the side of the PSA-Fiat Chrysler group, 30 billion euros will be injected.

Several battery factory projects should see the light of day in France.

But economist Flavien Neuvy wonders if that will be enough.

"The real question is whether we can have factories that will be as competitive as the Asian factories," he explains to Europe 1. "They are far ahead of us, and are making batteries at a cost. very competitive. "

Germany and France neck and neck

"Even when we have electric battery factories, we will be dependent on imports of all the materials that make up its batteries," he continues.

Germany, also launched in the race, is neck and neck with France.

But both could be overtaken by another major player, China, with manufacturers ready to fight a fierce battle.
