In future, Lufthansa wants to use gender-neutral language on board its aircraft when dealing with air travelers.

The requirement applies to all airlines in the Lufthansa Group, including Swiss, Austrian Airlines and Eurowings, a company spokesman confirmed on Tuesday upon request.

"The crews are required to choose an address that addresses all passengers," said the spokesman.

First the "Bild" newspaper reported.

Alternative forms of address would be a simple “Good morning” or “Dear guests”.

The decision was made in the context of a broader discussion about appreciating all guests on board.

The changeover is a "process that takes a certain amount of time," the spokesman said. The efforts to achieve a gender-neutral language are not limited to the passengers, but apply to the entire Lufthansa Group.
