The Federal Tax Authority stated that it had seized 2.8 million cans of tobacco without “digital tax stamps”, in addition to seizing 202 thousand violating “selective tax” packages of drinks, through 2,226 inspection visits in local markets that were carried out during the second quarter of this year, with dues. Taxes amounted to 71.48 million dirhams.

In a statement, the authority confirmed that during the second quarter, it continued its inspection campaigns in the state’s markets in cooperation with the Ministry of Economy, the Federal Customs Authority, economic development departments and other concerned parties to protect consumers’ rights, control tax evasion and increase the level of tax compliance, within the framework of the authority’s plans to contribute to strengthening market control to ensure compliance. legislation and tax procedures.

In a statement, the Director General of the authority, Khaled Ali Al-Bustani, said that the competent teams of the authority, in cooperation with the concerned authorities, carry out their inspection campaigns on a continuous basis throughout the year, to strengthen the control measures to protect consumers from the leakage of smuggled selective products that do not conform to the quality standards approved in the country, and to combat tax evasion . Al-Bustani added that in this context, the authority intensified its inspection campaigns in cooperation with the competent authorities during the last Ramadan to increase the tightening of control over the markets, as many violations were caught and legal measures were taken in their regard.

He stressed that “protecting consumers and ensuring their rights, as well as ensuring the performance of state rights, is at the forefront of the authority’s priorities, and at the same time the authority is constantly keen to provide all means of support and assistance to help business sectors comply with tax regulations and procedures with easy mechanisms that ensure the continuation of their economic activities efficiently. Complete,” calling on taxpayers to abide by tax legislation in order to avoid violations.

In turn, the Director of the Tax Compliance and Enforcement Department at the Federal Tax Authority, Sarah Al-Habashi, said that the inspections carried out by the authority depend on advanced electronic control mechanisms aimed at preventing the sale, circulation or storage of products that do not meet the value-added tax or the due excise tax.

And she indicated that among those mechanisms is the installation of "digital tax stamps" - registered in the authority's database - on tobacco packages and products, as each stamp includes electronically registered information that can be read by a special device used by authorized inspectors to ensure that the tax is paid on these products.
