Today's workers want freedom, autonomy and diversity.

This is the observation made by David Bibard, a management controller who, after having changed company several times, decided to satisfy his moves in 2010 by launching himself as an independent service provider to support different clients at the same time.

Four years later, he launched the Portail-du-temps -hare.fr, an online medium aimed at promoting this way of working.

What is timeshare work?

It is the meeting between companies, in particular VSEs and SMEs, which need specialized profiles for one-off but recurring assignments, and experienced professionals who wish to support companies on a human scale over time.

There is therefore no notion of temporary replacement, as for the interim, since it is a question of intervening on a regular basis and most often part-time in the same companies.

What is the applicable legal status?

Time-sharing is not a legal status, it is a way of working that brings together a large number of situations.

You can be directly employed in part-time CDI in several companies.

This is called multisalariat.

Another option: to be employed on a permanent contract by a group of employers, which will make you intervene with its member companies according to their needs, which facilitates the search for missions.

Finally, you can go out on your own as a time-share provider by adopting a freelance, consultant, micro-entrepreneur or even wage portage status.

Ultimately, the legal framework does not matter, as long as you support companies over the long term.

Which workers are moving in this direction?

According to our 2021 barometer, 40% of participants are in their fifties.

Very often, they have a very experienced profile and are tired of organizing large groups.

They therefore wish to return to small businesses on a human scale to prepare for their smooth end of career.

That said, there is more and more a rejuvenation of professionals, since 25% are in their forties and 15% are in their thirties.

This shows that part-time work is becoming a real career choice.

Which sectors are affected?

Given the multitude of forms of intervention, all sectors of activity can be concerned.

Originally, employers' groups developed in the agricultural sector, to avoid having to train new seasonal workers every year.

Today, many support functions can be exercised on a time-shared basis, particularly in human resources, management, finance or marketing.

For example, you can call on a HR Director, an executive secretary or even a time-shared office manager, who will intervene each month, for a few days or hours, in the SME.

What are the advantages and disadvantages for the worker?

Changing your environment and assignments frequently helps to avoid boredom, boost your career and can be a great source of personal fulfillment. Likewise, time-sharing brings a lot of flexibility, and this is even more true with the rise of teleworking, which sometimes makes it possible to meet the needs of several clients in the same day. However, it is imperative to physically go there on a regular basis in order to remain integrated and to do animation work.

In return for this freedom, you have to find several clients or employers for it to be financially viable.

When you operate as an independent contractor, you must constantly be on the lookout to find the next company.

But while lows are inevitable, you can make a very good living once your network is built.

In 2021, nearly 500,000 professionals have opted for this way of working.

According to the 2021 Barometer of the Time-Sharing Portal, the typical profile is as follows:

  • A mature worker: 40% are between 50 and 59 years old, and 25% between 40 and 49 years old

  • A self-employed person: 57% work with their own structure (SARL, SASU, micro-entrepreneur), within a network or not, against 16% of employees of a group of employers and 10% in multiple activities (with several statuses ).

  • Very part-time: 44% work less than 10 days per month in each company.
