Like many sectors of activity, legal professionals have had to adapt their practices to the health crisis.

But what is more astonishing is that the very type of litigation has been impacted by the pandemic.

This is what emerges from a recent survey carried out by a legal publisher with more than a hundred lawyers during the first quarter of 2021.

According to legaltech Lexbase, 24% of lawyers note in particular an increase in conflicts for domestic violence, divorces and separation.

“In family law, in 2020, there was hesitation to separate for fear of the financial future.

But in 2021, having understood that the crisis was going to last, we observed a resumption of separations, even an acceleration, for fear of experiencing a new confinement together, ”says a lawyer interviewed as part of the study.

An “epidemic risk” to be insured?

Due to the economic crisis, 21.3% of those polled also noted an increase in disputes relating to commercial leases and collective proceedings.

Likewise, changes in working practices have also had an impact on cases handled by lawyers, since 10% of the professionals questioned noted the emergence of new disputes relating to teleworking or even to hygiene and corporate security.

In addition, while 26% of the participants in the survey declared having been mobilized on subjects of unprecedented conflicts which they were not used to dealing with, 17% of them had to face requests relating to the assumption of responsibility by an insurer of the epidemic risk.
