• Controversy Minister Planas reads the primer to Minister Garzón for his criticism of meat consumption: "We politicians are not here to create problems

The President of the Government,

Pedro Sánchez

, has resolved today from Vilna (Lithuania) the struggle between two of his ministers, the Minister of Consumption, Alberto Garzón, and the Minister of Agriculture,

Luis Planas

, after the first, of United We Can, provoked a strong controversy when recommending that the consumption of meat be reduced for health and to help the conservation of the planet.

Garzón has run into Planas' rejection of his proposal, which has publicly disavowed him by arguing that it is "absolutely out of place" due to the penalty it entails for the livestock sector and that it is as "wrong" as saying that "the sugar kills "..

Sánchez has clearly put himself on the side of Planas, also aware of the anger of the meat industry - the agri-food sector is one of the most important in our country - and has assured from Vilna that

"where they put a steak to the point that is unbeatable".

In this way, with a demonstration as daily as it is unusual for him, the Prime Minister has tried to settle the controversy.

Sánchez concludes his tour of the three Baltic republics today with a visit to Lithuania, after a somewhat bumpy morning in which two fighters had to take off from the NATO base of Siauliai after detecting a "real threat" from the Force. Russian Air Force, which has forced Sánchez and the Lithuanian president to suspend the latter's intervention so that the two fighter jets could take off.

After this incident, the chief executive flew to Vilna where he had a meeting with the prime minister, Ingrida Šimonyt.

It is in that appearance that he has responded to the controversy among his ministers and to Garzón's own recommendation to reduce meat consumption.
