Sinopec announced on July 5 that it will start the construction of China’s first megaton-level CCUS project—the Qilu Petrochemical-Shengli Oilfield CCUS project, which covers three links of carbon capture, utilization and storage. After completion, it will become the largest CCUS project in China. Industrial chain demonstration base.

It is reported that carbon capture, utilization and storage is referred to as CCUS. As an important technical means to cope with global climate change and control greenhouse gas emissions, CCUS captures and purifies the carbon dioxide emitted during the production process, and then puts it into a new production process for reuse And archive.

The megaton-level CCUS project initiated by Sinopec this time consists of two parts: Qilu Petrochemical's carbon dioxide capture and Shengli Oilfield's carbon dioxide flooding and storage.

Qilu Petrochemical captures and provides carbon dioxide to be transported to Shengli Oilfield for oil displacement and storage, realizing the integrated application of carbon dioxide capture, displacement and storage, sealing carbon dioxide underground and driving oil out.

According to the calculation of the Qilu Petrochemical-Shengli Oilfield's million-ton CCUS, it can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 1 million tons per year, which is equivalent to planting nearly 9 million trees and shutting down nearly 600,000 economic cars for one year.
