Yahoo Japan, which handles Internet services, has decided to acquire the trademark rights of the brand of the company name that the American company had so far for more than 170 billion yen.

It is a brand with a company name that I used to pay a fee, but it will finally be free to use 25 years after the company was established.

On the 5th, Yahoo Japan signed a contract with an overseas investment company for a brand with a company name that can be used freely without paying a fee.

The brand has been trademarked by Verizon, a major American telecommunications company, through a subsidiary, and the company pays a commission based on sales.

This time, the trademark right will be transferred from Verizon to an overseas investment company, and the company decided to purchase it for 178.5 billion yen accordingly.

Yahoo was established jointly with Yahoo in the United States in 1996 by President Masayoshi Son of the SoftBank Group, and has gained a large number of users in services such as search sites and online shopping in Japan, but it has been 25 years since the company was established. After a while, you will finally be able to freely use the brand of the company name.

The parent company also wants to utilize this brand in new businesses in the future, saying that "the entire group will have more freedom in using the brand and developing technology."
