• Economy This is the new electricity bill: Three price ranges per day and more expensive in peak hours

The

price of electricity

in the wholesale market stands at

94.23 euros per megawatt / hour

(MWh)

this July 3

, an unusual level since it is a Saturday, a day on which industrial activity is considerably reduced.

In this way, the price of this day beats the annual record on Saturday, displacing the one reached on June 19, of 89.22 euros per MWh, which even exceeded that of June 26 (83.99 euros / MWh), May 29 (81.77 euros / MWh) and the one registered on Saturday, January 9 in full storm Filomena (80.66 euros / MWh).

To make an annual comparison, on the Saturday that would correspond to the previous year, July 4, the price was 28.68 euros / MWh, according to data from

the Iberian Electricity Market Operator

(OMIE).

The maximum price will be 106.95 euros / MWh

and the minimum 73.75 euros / MWh.

The average price therefore exceeds the mark reached in June, in which a record monthly average of 83.30 euros was registered.

The price of electricity reached

its annual record

last Friday

, 99.80 euros per MWh

.

Sources in the sector consulted attribute this maximum to a combination of factors, such as the

high temperatures

in the peninsula, the

costs of CO2 emission rights

, which have exceeded 50 euros per ton, and the

rise in the price of gas

.

These factors outweigh the fact that it is a weekend day, in which industrial activity is significantly reduced.

These prices penalize the industry and individuals, especially the

10.5 million eligible for the voluntary price

for small consumers (PVPC), who see how the price containment measures adopted by the Government are not yet causing the desired effect.

Consumers who are in the free market - some 17 million - are exempt, since they have a price agreed with their company.

It should be remembered that this month the

measures for the temporary suspension of the 7% tax on electricity generation

in the third quarter of this year

have come into force

.

To this should be added the VAT reduction from 21% to 10%, applied since last Saturday.

The price of energy has

a close weight in the bill of around 24%

, while around 50-55% corresponds to tolls -the cost of transmission and distribution networks- and charges -the costs associated with development from renewables, to extra-peninsular ones and the tariff deficit annuities - and just over 21% to taxes.

The

high price of electricity

is recorded after the new schedule came into effect in June for hourly periods.

Thus, the prices of tolls and charges are different between the time periods, both for power and energy.
