The
Consumer Price Index
(CPI) rose 0.4% in June compared to the previous month and placed its interannual rate at 2.6%, one tenth below that of May, according
to advanced data
published this Tuesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).
With the June data, the year-on-year CPI chains its sixth consecutive positive rate and continues at its highest levels since 2017.
According to Statistics, the moderation of the CPI to 2.6% was mainly contributed by
fuels
and
fuels
, whose prices increased less in June than they did in the same month of 2020.
In monthly rate, the CPI increased by 0.4% in June, one tenth less than in May, and has already
added four consecutive months of increases
.
The INE incorporates in the advance of CPI data an estimate of core inflation (excluding non-processed food or energy products), which figures for June at 0.2% year-on-year, the same as in May and a rate of almost 2.5 points lower than the general index.
In the sixth month of 2021, the
Harmonized Consumer Price Index
(HICP) placed its interannual rate at 2.4%.
If this data is confirmed, the annual rate of the HICP would not change with respect to May.
For its part, the leading indicator of the IPCA rose 0.4% in monthly rate.
The INE will publish the final CPI data for June on July 14.
