Back to December 20, 2002, the first "Made in Yantai" Sail car rolled off the production line at SAIC GM's Dongyue base, filling the gap in Shandong's car industry.
After years of development, the base has produced 5.68 million vehicles, 16.65 million powertrains, with an output value of 619.8 billion yuan, and exported 620,000 vehicles. The products cover Buick Encore Plus series, Chevrolet Chuangjie series, etc. Models, as well as three major series of engines and gearboxes.
In 2013, the Yantai Development Zone introduced the Hyundai R&D center solely funded by South Korea’s Hyundai Motor Group. At present, with Yantai Development Zone as the center, within a radius of 30 kilometers, a complete automotive industry chain such as automobile engines, gearboxes, chassis, body stamping parts, interior and exterior trim parts, and tires are strung together.
While the traditional automobile industry is developing rapidly, the district has also accelerated the layout of the new energy automobile industry chain, and successively introduced Shandong Baoya·FAW Jilin New Energy Automobile, Hongrui Lightweight Body Assembly, and Ligao Electronic Control System Headquarters Base. And core parts projects, and simultaneously cultivated Yiwanhua’s core automotive new materials industry.
As a landmark project for the transformation and upgrading of the automobile industry, the Shandong Baoya·FAW Jilin New Energy Vehicle Base project has a total investment of 10 billion yuan and a planned annual production capacity of 100,000 new energy vehicles.
Shandong Baoya Electric Vehicle Research Institute was established at the same time. It has the research and development capabilities of the whole process of electric vehicles and electric core components from model design to test evaluation. At present, the project has 41 electric vehicle patent technologies and 3 invention patents, covering the entire vehicle , Electronic and electrical, lightweight and other technical fields.
