It is the first time in three years that the shipment value in May exceeds the actual result in the same month of the previous year.



By product, while the state of emergency was declared due to the re-expansion of the new coronavirus infection, the number of "video equipment" such as flat-screen TVs increased by more than 43% against the background of so-called "demand for nesting".



In addition, automobile-related equipment such as car navigation systems increased by more than 78%, reflecting the recovery in sales of automobiles.



However, some stores, such as car navigation systems, are running out of stock or are delayed in arrival due to the global shortage of semiconductors.



Regarding the outlook for the future, the Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association said, "We expect sales of digital home appliances to continue to be strong this month, but we would like to keep an eye on whether the shortage of semiconductors will affect production."
