France has called for the recall of several batches of frozen products,
most
of them frozen
confections, which contain a substance considered carcinogenic
, ethylene oxide, which was banned by the EU in 2011.
On the list there are
profiteroles, sorbets, frozen cakes, cones, ice cream
... These are products that are being marketed in different surfaces of the neighboring country and that are added to the list published last June, when their withdrawal of thousands more for containing this substance.
This was announced yesterday by the agency in France responsible for ensuring competition and consumer rights (DGCCRF, in its French acronym), which has published the list in which there are about 7,000 and that
chains such as Casino, Carrefour are marketed , Leader Price, Picard or Auchan.
All these products have a substance that is considered carcinogenic, ethylene oxide,
a kind of pesticide that some countries use to destroy the bacteria
present in aromatic herbs and spices.
In small quantities, it is used as an agent for fumigation and sterilization, but in large quantities it is considered carcinogenic.
The investigation originated in September 2019, when the authorities were alerted to the presence of sesame seeds imported from India in these products that had the aforementioned ethylene oxide.
