The rise in cyber-attacks during “Corona” has boosted the skills of 90% of IT teams in the UAE

Sophos, which specializes in next-generation cybersecurity solutions, today announced the results of its global survey entitled “IT Security Team: 2021 and Beyond”, which shows that the increasing security challenges during the pandemic period have given IT teams a unique opportunity to enhance their expertise in field of cyber security. The vast majority of IT teams in the UAE faced an increase in cyber attacks (90%) and an increase in security workload (91%) during the year 2020, which enhanced their experience and knowledge in the field of cybersecurity. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, 52% of respondents working in IT teams around the world said team morale rose during 2020.  

The rise in the number of cyber-attacks during the pandemic has affected the skills of IT security staff in all sectors surveyed, which included – at the global level – education (83%), retail (85%) and healthcare (80%). The study surveyed 5,400 professionals from mid-level decision makers across 30 countries in Europe, the Americas, Asia Pacific, Central Asia and Africa.

In this regard, Chief Research Scientist at Sophos, Chaser Wisnevsky, said, “The year 2020 was unprecedented for workers in IT teams around the world, as they played a critical role in helping organizations survive despite the restrictions and procedures imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic. They also enabled educational institutions to move to distance education and commercial institutions to work through electronic stores, and helped health care institutions to provide digital services and care under very difficult conditions, and made sure that work in public institutions could continue to be able to provide basic services to citizens.”  

“Most of that work and services were done so quickly, with limited resources and equipment available, and a growing wave of cyber attacks against networks, endpoints, and employees, that we can describe the conditions in which IT teams have operated as stressful and stressful.”  

He added, "However, our survey clearly shows that these challenges have contributed to enhancing the skills of workers in IT teams and raising their motivation and readiness for an ambitious future. While many countries can start planning for life after the pandemic, we have a favorable opportunity to implement new policies for security and information technology and adopt Modern, safer tools to manage employees and processes outside of enterprise IT, build expert teams that bring together enterprise personnel and outsource, as well as use security platforms that integrate intelligent automation with human expertise in threat intelligence.We have no choice but to move forward, the future may bring with it Unprecedented developments as well."
