The deadline to declare your 2020 income has passed.

A late declaration is however possible, but this will be accompanied by a surcharge.

If it is relatively low at the beginning, it can quickly increase in the event of forgetting or prolonged refusal to pay.

Have you filed your income tax return for 2020?

If not, bad news, the last day of the last region for online filing was this Tuesday at 11:59 p.m. ET.

If the deadlines have passed, all is not lost, it is still possible to pay your taxes, moderately penalties.

Be careful, however, because too much delay could cost you dearly.

It is also too late to make up for an oversight or a mistake.

An increase in the event of late declaration

As is often the case with taxes, better late than never.

If you haven't yet filed your income tax return, you can still do so today, or in the next few days.

This is called a late declaration but you will have to pay a 10% markup.

For example, if you have an annual tax of 1,000 euros for example, you will have to pay the tax authorities 1,100 euros for having declared your income after the deadline.

If you do not do so, the State will send you a formal notice, that is to say a stimulus, also accompanied by an increase of 20%.

If, however, you do not follow up on this reminder, the increase will increase to 40% in the event of no response within 30 days of receipt.

Default interest on tax due may also be applied.

"These amount to 0.20% per month of delay. This interest applies until the last day of the month of the subscription of the income statement", specifies service-public.fr.

A delay or forgetfulness would also be increased

It is however possible to escape the sanctions if your delay is due to hospitalization, for example: you must then report it to the General Directorate of Public Finances.

Alternatively, if you realize that you have made a mistake or an oversight in your return.

It is too late to change it.

However, these reports can be made when you have received your tax notice, from the second half of August.

Note, however: "if the administration discovers that you carry out an occult activity (undeclared work or illegal activity), an increase of 80% will be applied to you without it being necessary to send you a formal notice".
