Toward the realization of a carbon-free society, Fukushima Prefecture and Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. will collaborate with major convenience stores and other organizations to start a project to create a city where hydrogen is used to power stores and cars, starting next year in Iwaki City and Koriyama City. I decided to start with.

According to the announcement, Fukushima Prefecture and Toyota Motor Corporation will start a hydrogen-based urban development project in collaboration with major convenience store chains and local supermarkets such as York-Benimaru.

The project will start next year in Iwaki City and Koriyama City, and will introduce dozens of FCV = fuel cell vehicles that run on hydrogen in delivery trucks used at convenience stores and supermarkets.

Hydrogen is produced at a manufacturing facility in Namie Town, Fukushima Prefecture.

In addition, at convenience stores, supermarket stores, and factories in each city, dedicated equipment that uses hydrogen to generate electricity will be installed to cover part of the electricity for cars, lighting, and machinery.

In this project, we will examine the amount of hydrogen required and the issues of infrastructure development when hydrogen is taken in as an energy source for a city with a population of 300,000.

Fukushima Prefecture and Toyota say, "We will steadily take on the challenge of realizing a world-leading hydrogen society and carbon neutrality."
