The April Mining and Industry Production Index, which shows the production activity of companies, has exceeded the previous month for the second consecutive month.

The main factor was the increase in production of steam turbines for power generation and storage batteries for vehicles against the backdrop of increasing overseas demand, and the level exceeded the level before the spread of the new coronavirus infection.

According to the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, the preliminary figures for the Mining and Industry Production Index in April were 99.6, with 2015 as 100.

This is the second consecutive month of increase, surpassing 99.1 in January last year before the spread of the new coronavirus infection.

Twelve of the 15 industries increased, and the main reason for this was the increase in production of steam turbines for power generation, in-vehicle storage batteries, and semiconductor manufacturing equipment against the backdrop of increasing overseas demand.

In addition, the index, which forecasts future production activity in major manufacturing industries, is expected to decrease by 1.7% in May, while it is expected to increase by 5% in June.

For this reason, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry maintained the keynote judgment that companies' production activities were "recovering."

According to the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, "Companies' production is on a recovery trend, but there are concerns about the effects of global semiconductor shortages and the spread of mutant virus infections, so we would like to continue to monitor production trends."
